Cook your T.U.R.K.E.Y Safely

I originally wrote this in 2015 when I was working in safety technology and is one of my long term favourites

I wanted to take a minute to wish my large North American Linkedin contingent  a Happy Thanksgiving –  I hope you enjoy the holiday period if you are lucky enough to receive a few days off!

For those of us however who don’t celebrate this holiday period filled full of festivities, fun and feasting on turkey – I wanted to create a jovial safety message which you can use at some point in your kitchen, regardless of your location – T.U.R.K.E.Y

T – Thaw a turkey at a safe temperature – 40°F/4°C or below

U – Use extra caution when cooking your turkey  – wear appropriate PPE and avoid usage of oil fryers where possible

R – Remember to clean all surfaces with a sterilizing agent and do so regularly to avoid food contamination

K – Keep children away from hot foods, surfaces and dangerous kitchen utensils

E – Ensure turkey is completely cooked through and has reached a temperature of 165°F/74°C

Y – Your smoke detected should be tested prior to cooking your delicious turkey
